Terence Blanchard and Ravi Coltrane: Miles Davis and John Coltrane Centennial

Two leading voices in contemporary jazz come together at Partridge Hall on October 9 as trumpeter Terence Blanchard and saxophonist Ravi Coltrane celebrate the centennials of Miles Davis and John Coltrane — not by recreating the past, but by exploring what their music continues to make possible.

Presented by Bravo Niagara as part of its TD Jazz Series, the concert brings together two musicians deeply connected to the musical lineage of Davis and Coltrane.

Blanchard is a trumpeter, composer and bandleader whose career has moved across jazz, film, opera and contemporary composition. Ravi Coltrane has built his own distinctive career as a saxophonist, composer and bandleader while carrying an extraordinary musical heritage as the son of John and Alice Coltrane.

Rather than approaching the centennial as a nostalgic recreation, the ensemble will use the legacy of Miles Davis and John Coltrane as a foundation for improvisation, invention and contemporary interpretation — keeping the exploratory spirit of two artists who continually pushed jazz forward firmly in the present.
