Road Waves Perform Steely Dan’s Can’t Buy a Thrill
Niagara's Road Waves return to Warehouse Concert Hall for a Halloween night built around one of the landmark albums of the 1970s: Steely Dan's Can't Buy a Thrill, performed in its entirety.
Formed in Niagara by guitarist and vocalist Ji Sharp, Road Waves have spent more than a decade developing a sound that moves freely between progressive rock, funk, jazz, soul and the improvisational spirit of the jam-band tradition. Their catalogue includes the albums The Lighthouse and Red Sun Rising, along with more recent singles including “Hometown,” “Frog Rock” and 2025's “Cyan Wave.” The band was also named Best Original Band at the 2025 Niagara Music Awards.
That background makes Can't Buy a Thrill particularly interesting territory for the band. Steely Dan's 1972 debut introduced a catalogue in which rock, jazz, unusual harmonies and meticulous arrangements would become increasingly intertwined. Rather than presenting a conventional tribute show, Road Waves will bring their own musical personality to the album, performing it from beginning to end.
The evening won't be entirely Steely Dan. Road Waves will open with a full set of their original material before tackling Can't Buy a Thrill in its entirety.
Saturday, October 31, 2026 — 8:00 p.m.
Warehouse Concert Hall, St. Catharines
General admission: $30 CAD, including the fees and taxes shown by the current ticket listing.
