It’s Too Late to Stop Now: The Music of Van Morrison
Singer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Weidinger brings a seven-piece band to Partridge Hall on September 19 for It’s Too Late to Stop Now, exploring more than six decades of Van Morrison’s music with an ensemble built to capture the horns, Hammond organ and soulful sound associated with Morrison’s live performances.
Weidinger discovered Morrison’s music at a young age and has built the show around both the songs and the spontaneous energy of Morrison’s live performances. While the production draws particular inspiration from the sound of Morrison’s early-1970s touring bands, the repertoire reaches across his career.
The evening includes material ranging from early songs such as Gloria and Here Comes the Night through later favourites including Days Like This, alongside selections from throughout Morrison’s extensive catalogue.
Weidinger has been a full-time musician since the age of 16, developing his craft in the Kitchener-Waterloo blues scene before becoming a familiar performer across Ontario. A singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, he performs on guitar, piano, bass and mandolin, with the Hammond organ — featured prominently in this production — his instrument of choice.
For It’s Too Late to Stop Now, Weidinger is joined by a seven-piece ensemble including two horn players, bringing together the soul, rhythm and blues, jazz and Celtic influences that have run through Morrison’s music across generations.
