Gowan
More than four decades after Strange Animal established him as one of Canada's most distinctive rock performers, Lawrence Gowan brings his unmistakable voice, keyboard virtuosity and theatrical stage presence to Partridge Hall.
Born in Glasgow and raised in Canada, Gowan was classically trained at Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music before emerging as a solo artist in the 1980s. His breakthrough album, Strange Animal, became a triple-platinum Canadian success and produced enduring favourites including “A Criminal Mind,” “(You're A) Strange Animal” and “Cosmetics.” His 1987 album Great Dirty World added another signature song, “Moonlight Desires,” to a catalogue that remains a fixture of Canadian rock radio.
Gowan's career took another turn in 1999 when he joined legendary rock band Styx as keyboardist and vocalist. Since then, his Canadian solo career and his work with Styx have increasingly crossed paths — including Styx performances of “A Criminal Mind.”
The May 3 concert brings Gowan back to the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre for an evening drawing on a career that stretches from his landmark Canadian solo recordings to more than 25 years performing on stages around the world with Styx.
