Drum Masterclass with Larnell Lewis
Grammy Award-winning drummer, composer, producer and educator Larnell Lewis returns to the FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre for an interactive drum masterclass in the Recital Hall.
Best known internationally for his work with jazz-fusion powerhouse Snarky Puppy, Lewis has also performed and recorded with an extraordinary range of artists, including Laila Biali, Jacob Collier, Jeremy Ledbetter, Emilie-Claire Barlow, Molly Johnson and many others.
Lewis's musicianship is matched by his work as an educator. A Professor of Music at Humber College, he brings the same energy, musicality and curiosity to teaching that have made him one of Canada's most celebrated contemporary drummers.
Snarky Puppy fans may know one particularly remarkable piece of Larnell Lewis lore: before the recording sessions that became the band's acclaimed We Like It Here, Lewis learned much of the material while travelling to the Netherlands for the sessions. His performance on that project — including the now-famous “Lingus” — became one of the defining introductions to his playing for listeners around the world.
The January 10 event is part of the PAC's Musician Masterclasses series, which also includes Production and Songwriting masterclasses later in January.
All tickets: $20.
This event is sponsored by Long & McQuade Musical Instruments.
